Welcome to "The Scratching Post"

March 29, 2011

Hello, I am naming the weekly info emails "The Scratching Post" because that is what I call the info center at the shelter(Bulletin boards). I like it!

All Volunteer Meeting update: Due to lack of responds for April 3, I am moving it one more week to April 10, 11am! I will put a sign up sheet on the top of the counter next to the sign-in sheet, Maybe I will have a better responds. Please continue to think of things that you want to discuss, all your input is very important!!  Kitty update: Has everyone at this point met Garfield? He is the one who is not eating. Orange tiger next to the maine coon kitten, Peppa. I think he is starting to come around, what I am asking everyone to do, please send a little extra time with him, Soft talking to him, let him smell your hand, try to offer a treat at the same time, then try slowly to pet his head. I was able to pet his head by doing this monday night. He does not seem to lash out. The women that had him said it took her 3 weeks to get him to come around, but where he is not eating we need to shorten that time frame. Thank you everyone for that extra love.  ~We have received  2 batches of kittens so far, the first batch was only a few days old when they came in, and has lost one, too weak. The little girl may be blind and the other little boy is doing fine. The second batch is 3 weeks old, and seem to be doing great. Both are out in foster homes, they need that extra care.  ~Roscoe has had some blood work today and will have some dental work done tomorrow, soon that cute little boy will be able to enjoy dry food again. ~Sadie and Peppa from the back room will be spay tomorrow. ~Savannah has been adopted, she is waiting to be spay so she can go home. ~Frosty has put one more notch on his cage, he bit Joan today. I think they are consisting grinding down his teeth or removing them totally, I want everyone to be extremely careful with him, Irene puts him in his carrier when she cleans his cage, I think that is the best idea. I think she uses the dust pan to direct him in the carrier. What I do is before I open his cage I get wet food, He wants to eat, so that helps to keep him busy while I clean the cage. Either way please use caution.  ~Logan(fluffy orange) in the medical room is not pooping, He is eating the plastic trash liner, Please check the room then you leave to be sure there is no plastic bags left in there. He is on medication to help him go. Please give him Fancy Feast wet and add alittle water to loosen it up. Also, he has been adopted as of today!!!  ~Puppy 's fur is starting to fill back in, they have taken him off the medical he was on, the thought is he was having a reaction which caused him to loss his fur. ~Fuller(orange tiger, Rain's brother) got adopted on Saturday. The guy came for him is giving him to his girlfriend, she use to have a orange tiger, What a nice guy, how nice you say, he gave double the adoption fee, that's how nice. ~Molly has gone home.  ~Fred was a little sick yesterday but seems to be better, I think he had a sour stomach. If I have left anyone out please let me know!!!  New Volunteers: Up on the "Things Needed" dry ease board you will see some new volunteers to watch out for, please help to welcome them!
