CANNED CAT FOOD NEEDED!
Our "Special Needs Cats" have depleted our canned cat food supply. We have several "Special Needs" cats who are on a canned cat food diet. Their health depends on the extra fluids they get from the canned food. If you are able to donate canned food it would be greatly appreciated. The cats really enjoy the Nine Lives and Friskies flavors, but please no tuna. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter on Saturdays during our open hours of 11am-4pm or left in the box outside the front gate. For more information or directions to the shelter please call the shelter hotline at 508-285-5159. There are usually volunteers at the shelter to take your call in the morning. If you get the answering machine please leave a message and a volunteer will get back to you.
Thank you for your support!
Kittens, Kittens, Kittens
Yes folks once again the season is upon us! The phones are ringing off the hook at all the shelters and pet stores. Cat lovers are on a quest for those cuddly, warm, little balls of fur to call their own! But what of last year's model, or perhaps the ones born years ago, those who may or may not have been adopted as ababy? You know, the cute little kitten whose destiny it was to become a CAT! Unfortuenately, unlike cars, there is never a shortage of leftover felines. Remeber that although kittens are a wonder to behold, there are a lot of younger, or even older cats out there in need of good homes. These are the ones that already have a personality that you can see. The ones that reach out of the cages at the local shelters and say, "Hey look at me, to know me is to love me!" So if you are longing for feline companionship, and the kittens are not ready to go yet, please take a walk through one of the local shelters. Check out all the beautiful, soft, loving cats there. If you are real lucky, one of them may just choose you!

March Campaign “Support a Special Needs Cat”
This March Nine Lives is celebrating 11 years as a non-kill, non-profit, all volunteer feline shelter and refuge.

At Nine Lives we see this as a celebration of 11 years of success stories. We are lucky enough to be able to claim well over fifteen hundred Happy Endings, however, being a non-kill shelter we also have had our share of not so Happy Endings. Over the years, we have run into many animals that do to medical or emotional issues, have little chance of ever finding a “Forever Home”. At present time we are caregivers to 17 Special Needs cats. These are our feline friends that have heart conditions that are progressive, diabetes, neurological problems, birth defects, contracted diseases; such as FIV, or emotional issues.
Fortunately not al of them are housed at the shelter, if they were we would have very little space for our healthy cats. Many of these Special Needs Cats are in the homes of some of our caring volunteers. These are people, who take them home to monitor their care, and lovingly except them as part of their family.
We are very lucky to work with some wonderful Animal Hospitals in the area; that care for our animals at discount prices, in hopes of lowering our medical costs. This enables our cats to enjoy a good quality life and stay as healthy as they can within the limits of their medical issues.
However, between the cost of our regular medical care given to all our new arrivals, and the on going cost of our Special Cats, our medical bills always run over a thousand dollars each month. In order to off set some of our medical cost, and to honor our 11th year, in the month of March, we are launching our “Support a Special Needs Cat” campaign. Wherever you see our golden cats, you can purchase one for a dollar, and that dollar will go directly to the care of one of our “Special” kitties.
We hope that the community will help out, as always, to make our new campaign a success.
