Meet our Friends:
My name is Vickie Nikolla and I am a volunteer with Feline Friends of Salem, New Hampshire. Feline Friends rescued 90, plus cats out of a hoarding situation which took over a month to complete. At first it was thought that there were approximately 50 to 60 cats, but in the end over 90. Not including the litters of dead kittens. Dead kittens were the hardest and only finding a total of maybe three kittens that survived the horrible conditions and smell. Kitten’s lungs couldn’t tolerate the strong ammonia smell of the urine The conditions in this home were absolutely disgusting. I pray that I don’t ever experience anything like what I saw in that house that day. They didn’t have a chance. The faces on these older cats (ranging in age from 8 months to 2 years old) – not knowing what was going on and why we were there pulling them from the rafters and putting them in carriers. They called this house of horrors there home and they thought this was what life was. Living in feces and urine with minimal food and water. We moved quickly to get them out so that they would not be in harms way. The easy solution would have been to have the local law enforcements go in and take them out and then they would have been euthanized. This we would not allow to happen. As every life deserves a chance to know life isn’t what they have experienced. All these cats have been vetted by Feline Friends. Spayed and neutered, shots and combo tested. All negative thank God. They are all healthy, but very, very scared. They are not feral. You can pat them, but not pick them up. They are wonderful! Agencies and homes where they have been placed have all said the same thing. Some are progressing faster than others but they all say they are wonderful, cherish the sun and fresh water. When we were leaving this house of horrors after the second time in, I had three little kittens in my sweatshirt and kept praying to God they would survive and asked why this happened. Unfortunately, one of the kittens did not survive. But as we were driving I had a carrier propped up on the seat and the cat was just staring out the window with the sun blazing through and he was just closing his eyes soaking it in. So sad. But they are saved now and we just need to find NO KILL agencies to help. They do better in pairs so if you could take 2, 4 or six, please, please let me know. I understand it is kitten season and with adoptions low for everyone across the board it is difficult, but we need help. Please email me if you can. Thank you. Vickie
