Maggie Mae

On Wednesday March 3, 2010 we had to say goodbye

to our beloved Maggie.  Maggie will be greatly missed

as she has touched so many hearts while she was a

resident here.  Here are the last 2 posts on

Maggie from our Facebook page.

Wednesday March 3, 2010

Today we said goodbye to our Maggie Mae, she had a bad night, and her lungs filed with fluid again. This morning our medical director, who was also Maggie's Foster Mom, had to bring Maggie in to end her suffering. Thank you to Cindi for the wonderful care that and all the love you gave Maggie. We know that Maggie enjoyed her time in her foster home, where she was free to roam and play with her foster sisters and brothers.

We love you Maggie, we will miss you!

Below is a note from one of Maggie's favorite volunteers, Irene. Irene spent over a year looking for Maggie, never giving up. Irene is known by all the cats/kittens at the shelter as the treat lady. She brings them in their "special" treats once a day.

From Irene:

"I just felt like I needed to open my arms for you.
I have only known you for a short time but you will remain in my heart forever.
God needed a special angel and he chose you.
Jump over the clouds Maggie and run through the flower fields.
You are and always will be a shining star.
We all love you and will miss you.
Sleep well my little friend."

Maggie Mae Gone Too Soon

Wednesday Feb. 24, 2010:

Maggie was adopted out from the shelter almost 2years ago. She escaped through an open window in her new home and was lost for over a year. Nine Lives volunteer, Irene, never stopped looking for Maggie during that year. She put up many many posters, talked to neighbors, and searched numerous times through the woods, only to come up empty handed.

Then last summer as she was driving through the neighborhood she saw Maggie on the side of the road. She opened a can of cat food and Maggie came running over to it. After all her hard work, she had found Maggie outside not far from where she had escaped from. She picked up Maggie and brought her back to the shelter.

Maggie was in bad shape when we got her back. She had been outside for over a year, surviving the cold winter, coyotes and fisher cats. She now had a heart murmur, and was badly malnourished, and dehydrated. She was so thin you could feel the bones in her body, but Maggie is a fighter. We gave her fluids 2x a day, and nursed her back to health. Within a few weeks her health had greatly improved. Because Maggie now had a bad heart, she was taken off site to foster care where she could be monitored and medicated regularly.

This week Maggie took a turn for the worst. She was brought in to the vet and was put on oxygen. She stayed overnight in the hospital while the vets worked to determine why she was so ill and why there was so much fluid in her chest.

Today her test results came back and we found out that our Maggie Mae has cancer, and is only being given 1-2 weeks to live. Maggie Mae is a very special cat to many of our volunteers. Right now, Maggie Mae is back in her foster home where she will remain in hospice care. Her foster Mom, is making sure that she is comfortable, she is eating well, and enjoying her time with her foster Mom and her other furry foster children.

Kaos

This summer Kaos came to our shelter.

We didn't have any medical information

on Kaos.  She was a very sweet girl.  A

week after she was spayed, Kaos came

down with FCV (Feline Calicivirus)

Unfortunately she was not strong

enough to fight off the virus and she had

to be put to sleep.  The volunteers at the

shelter and our vet were very upset that

we couldn't save Kaos.

Kaos will be missed!

Elle Mae

On Thursday, September 3, 2009 we said goodbye to

our Elle Mae.  Elle Mae was a spunky, 20 year old,

who lived at the shelter for 6 years.

She has spent the last 1 1/2 years in a wonderful foster

home where she was loved and cared for.  Elle Mae will

be greatly missed by us all here at the shelter, and

especially by her Foster Mom.  Nine Lives thanks her

foster mom for giving her a wonderful home where she

could live out her life, be loved, and run free.

 Casey

On Monday, July 6, 2009 we had to say goodbye to

Casey. Casey was one of our special needs cats.  She has

been in a loving Foster home for a while.  We thank her

foster home for taking great care of Casey and giving

her a happy home where she was comfortable and

loved.  Casey will be missed.

This week has been a hard week at Nine Lives.  We had

to say farewell to 3 of our "Special Needs" residents

and Megan.

Megan

May 2, 2009

Last night our Megan passed away.  She was a beautiful

young tortie.  She was a little shy and very sweet.

Megan came to stay with us a little over a year ago.  She

will be greatly missed by all the volunteers and her

feline friends at the shelter.

April 28, 2009

We had two, 11 month old FELV positive kittens who

were living in a foster home.  This week it was

discovered that they had cancer and their condition

worsened.  Their foster mom had to bring them in to be

euthanize.  Rebecca and Renee will be missed.  Nine

Lives thanks their foster Mom for giving them a loving

home where they were allowed to live out their short

lives, outside of a cage, running and playing and being

loved. Rebecca and Renee leave behind a Foster Mom

who will greatly miss them.

Buster

We also had to say Good bye to our Buster.  Buster was

a handsome 5 year old diabetic tiger.  A couple of

weeks ago, Buster was diagnosed with Pancreatic

cancer.  Unfortunately he could not be helped with

surgery because the cancer had progressed to far.

Buster  left us on April 27, 2009.  Buster left behind

many friends at Nine Lives, and a loving Foster Home.

  Buster will be missed.
